Alison Godfrey

Partner, Audit

Alison is a Partner specialising in charities and not-for-profit organisations, bringing more than 27 years of experience supporting the sector.

She trained with charity-specialist firm Sayer Vincent, where she gained extensive experience in audit, accounts preparation, taxation and consultancy, progressing to the role of Audit Manager. During this time, she also spent four months on secondment at Oxfam, conducting internal audits and delivering training on projects across Africa and Asia.

After relocating to Gloucestershire, Alison joined The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) as Head of Finance & Administration. There, she led a team of seven and oversaw the finance function for an international conservation charity with a £12 million turnover, nine branches and 400 staff.

At Gravita Godfrey Wilson, Alison manages a portfolio of charity audits and independent examinations while providing hands-on advice on matters including charity VAT, cloud accounting and financial management. Her experience as an auditor, employee, trustee and volunteer gives her a unique perspective, enabling her to support clients on both operational and strategic issues.

Alison is currently Treasurer of St Peter’s Hospice in Bristol and chairs its Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. She has also held Trustee positions with Deki, a microfinance charity working across Africa and Asia, and Saidia Children’s Home in Kenya. Her voluntary work has included supporting street children in Kathmandu and working at a high school in Nairobi.

This breadth of experience allows Alison to understand the challenges charities face from every angle and provide practical, commercially focused advice that helps organisations achieve their goals.
