David McGeeney

David is a highly experienced audit specialist with a dedicated focus on the not-for-profit sector, bringing nearly two decades of expertise to charities of all sizes. Since 2007, David has worked extensively across the charity landscape, supporting organisations ranging from local community initiatives to internationally recognised NGOs, with incomes spanning from under £100,000 to £70 million.
Holding an ICAEW Diploma in Charity Accounting and FCCA qualification for over 17 years, David combines deep technical knowledge with a practical, solutions-driven approach. His experience covers both audit and independent examination engagements, alongside a broad advisory portfolio tailored to the unique challenges of the sector.
David has advised clients on evolving SORP requirements and wider accounting standards, supported governance improvements, and guided organisations through complex regulatory matters, including preparation for Charity Commission enquiries. His expertise also extends to creative industries tax relief claims (including Theatre Tax Relief, Museums and Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief, and Orchestra Tax Relief), as well as the preparation of tax returns.
With particular specialisms in faith-based charities, armed forces organisations, social care providers, and grant-making bodies, David is known for delivering clear, pragmatic advice that helps trustees and management teams navigate complexity with confidence.
Outside of his professional work, David is a former committee member of a local community organisation and is actively seeking his next voluntary opportunity. He also enjoys travelling across the UK to participate in chess congresses, reflecting a strategic and analytical mindset both in and out of the workplace.
